With the belief that parents are the first and most important influential teacher in a child’s life, The Parenting Network offers the following early literacy home visiting program:
HIPPY
HIPPY (Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters) is a parent involvement, school readiness program that helps parents prepare their preschoolers for success in school and beyond. HIPPY builds bonds between parents and children while making learning an enjoyable family experience through the use of books, activities, and learning games. HIPPY is a free, home-based program for parents of 3, 4, and 5 yearolds. HIPPY visits take place weekly, but there are activities for the parents and children to do for the entire week - until the next home visit. Parent Partners visit the home weekly and role that week's curriculum with parents so that they, in turn, can do the activities with their children.
HIPPY follows the school year calendar (September through May). New families are encouraged to sign up in August, but families may be able to join at other times of the school year, depending on case load.
HIPPY is funded through a grant from Northwestern Mutual Foundation and through the United Way of Greater Milwaukee in cooperation with COA.
