When filing taxes, working families with children (with annual incomes below $54,000) may be eligible for the EITC or federal Earned Income Tax Credit. In 2015, receiving EITC boosted wages for families with children by about $265 per month. Individuals making below $14,820 and married couples without children making below $20,330 may also be eligible for the EITC.
Also available is the CTC (or Child Tax Credit) up to $1,000 per qualifying child. To claim the CTC you and/or your child must meet all 7 qualifications that include: age, relationship, support, dependent status, citizenship, length of residency and family income.
